If you didn’t get a chance to register to vote this weekend, don’t worry. You can still register Monday – Friday, at the local IEC office at 20 High Street, during office hours, by appointment. Phone (046) 622-3008 to make an appointment. Please do so as soon as possible.

To register, you only need a green, barcoded South African ID book, smart ID card, or valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC). They do NOT accept a passport, driver’s license, certified copy of ID or any other form of ID.

Until the voting roll closes, you can register at the IEC, at the above mentioned office, directly. The exact date of the election has not been announced, though it is going to be in May.

The voting roll closes at 5pm on the day the election is proclaimed.

You DO not need to be 18 to register (16 is the minimum age), but if you are not 18 by election day, you will not be allowed to vote.
